David Routledge
grew up in East Yorkshire before moving to Manchester to
study with Lydia Mordkovitch at the Royal Northern College
of Music.
Having chosen the
diversity of a freelance career, he now juggles his
commitments between a number of ensembles. As a former
member of the European Union Chamber Orchestra David has
performed all around the world, frequently as a soloist.
He is currently a
member and occasional leader of Manchester Camerata, the
Northern Chamber Orchestra and Sinfonia Viva.
As the leader of
the highly acclaimed contemporary music ensemble, Psappha,
David has made numerous broadcasts in this country and
abroad as both chamber musician and soloist as well as
several recordings.
His interest in the
music of Astor Piazzolla led him to form Trio Zambra which
in addition to the tangos plays a widely varied repertoire
and more recently Tango 5, a group dedicated to the tango
quintet repertoire
David can often be
seen in the violin sections of the northwests symphony
orchestras frequently playing as a guest principal.
He lives in Glossop
with his young family and follows the variable fortunes of
Newcastle United and Blyth Spartans.
